‘MALAY TSUNAMI’ an Opposition fantasy, says UMNO

The Opposition is daydreaming of capturing Putrajaya through a ‘Malay tsunami’, said the head of Special Affairs Department (Jasa) Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
Branding the ‘Malay tsunami’ talk as a psychological war from the Opposition, Puad, who is also an Umno supreme council member, said that DAP was diverting attention from the corruption scandal that has hit the DAP-led Penang government.
“Actually, the Malay tsunami will hit Pakatan Harapan as the Malays are losing confidence with the coalition that is being used as a puppet by DAP,” he said, adding that losing PAS as coalition partner had severely hit Pakatan Harapan’s Malay support.
In an apparent jibe at Umno splinter Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), Puad said that he doubted the party could cause a Malay tsunami during GE14.
“There’s no possibility of a Malay tsunami when PPBM led by (Dr) Mahathir (Mohamad) failed to attract the Malay support.
“It is understood that PPBM has only 29,000 members. There’s no way that Malay tsunami would happen,” Puad, who is also Batu Pahat Umno division chief, said in a WhatsApp reply to Berita Daily.
He was commenting on DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s statement on Tuesday that Pakatan Harapan can win three more states in GE14 — Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Johor — should a 10% swing in the Malay votes along with 5% more non-Malay support go to the coalition.
Lim also said the Malay tsunami, which Pakatan is banking on to win Putrajaya, would see the coalition win 113 parliamentary seats nationwide to form the federal government.
Malays marginalised
Another Umno supreme council member Ab Aziz Kaprawi said that the Malays of Johor have seen how the Malays were marginalised by the Penang government in the northern state and will not vote for the DAP-led Opposition bloc in the next election.
He said even the PKR Malay rep, the Penanti assemblywoman Dr Norlela Ariffin, herself fumed over the treatment she received from the state government.
“So I believe that Johor Malays see what is happening and wouldn’t want to share the same fate,” said the Sri Gading lawmaker when contacted by Berita Daily.
He said Lim’s statement was his own assumption that the Malays will side with the Opposition.
The Malay tsunami, according to Ab Aziz, who is also the Sri Gading Umno division chief, is an attempt by the DAP to divide the Malay community.
“He has succeeded in breaking PAS into two (that gave birth to Amanah). Now he (Lim) wants to break Umno too. That is why he is in cahoots with Mahathir and also Muhyiddin (Yassin) despite the Opposition supporters’ hatred towards Mahathir.
“Lim wants the Malays to be divided, that is his goal. Then it will be easier for the DAP to take over the country’s leadership,” stressed Ab Aziz.
BN’s proven track record
Meanwhile, the people of Johor have been urged to vote against the Opposition bloc as it merely wanted to win seats to form the state government after the 14th general election, without serving the rakyat.
Johor Health, Environment, Information and Education Committee chairman Ayub Rahmat said that Johoreans can judge the performance of the BN state government led by the Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin since 2013.
Ayub said that the state government has recorded a surplus budget since 2013 and has proven that it is capable and effective in developing Johor.
“The state government has financial muscle. Through the surplus budget, Khaled has executed multiple projects that bring benefits to the people of Johor.
“I hope that the Malays can think ahead of the fate of the race. The Opposition only want to win seats for their own benefits, and not to serve the people,” Ayub said in a WhatsApp reply.
In his statement yesterday, Lim, who is also the Gelang Patah MP, said that Pakatan Harapan could win 39 state seats in Perak, 19 state seats in Negeri Sembilan and 36 state seats in Johor, through the Malay tsunami.
Johor offers 26 parliamentary seats and 56 state seats.
