Johor Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin intends to instill volunteerism and charity as part of the Johor people’s culture, and not just as seasonal acts.
Mohamed Khaled said that the aim is to make volunteerism and charity as a way of life in Johor especially among the youth.
“All parties must think of kind acts that they can contribute to the people and to the state. All sides must come forward and contribute.
“We want Johor to be a state moulded and moved by the community and that does not depend fully on the government. A state driven by society,” he said when launching the Pertubuhan Ihsan Johor (Ihsan Johor) at KSL Resort Hotel here today.
Ihsan Johor, a non-government organisation (NGO) established in May 2016, is the brainchild of Mohamed Khaled.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also the Permas assemblyman, said that the Johor state government will also introduce a new agenda for next year, making next year as “a year of giving”.
“We will ensure that Johor and its community are generous to donate to those in need.”
Mohamed Khaled also announced a RM500,000 donation to Ihsan Johor as a sign of support and gratitude from the state government to the NGO’s cause.
He also said that the state government has agreed to contribute to the building of 20 houses this year under the Ihsan Johor programme, building houses for those really in need.
“And next year we agree to contribute 30 houses through Ihsan Johor,” added Mohamed Khalid.
Earlier, Ihsan Johor founding president Suhaimi Salleh said that the NGO has amassed RM1.5 million in donations from corporate bodies and individuals.
Suhaimi welcomes any organisations that want to collaborate with the NGO for charity projects or wish to donate to the body.
He also welcomes the community to be part of Ihsan Johor volunteers, dubbed the Ihsan Johor Rangers.
